UNITED IN SERVICE
Standing Tall & Together for Veterans in need!
I hope sharing this story of generosity and service will give you thought to Making A Difference by Being The Difference for a Veteran in need into a Family Affair during the holidays.
All Good Deeds are equal in the good they can do in supporting the United Relief Foundation service to Veterans in need. However, with Thanksgiving upon us, I’d like to share a recent story of generosity and service that exemplifies how Making A Difference by Being The Difference can be a Family Affair.
The United Relief Foundation ‘Tis the Season of Service campaign provides a way to turn admiration into action in the service of the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces.
It is the spirit of service to those who served that Paula Aitken, the owner of Casting Whimsy and her mother, Rita Arnold, took action.
Paula started with donating 10% of Veterans Day’s sales from her Casting Whimsy Woodstock Illinois location. Then, she asked (and is asking) customers to donate to the United Relief Foundation by rounding-up their purchases and consider contributing to a United In Service tip jar. (These monetary donations are designated for the United Relief Foundation Women Warriors campaign.)
Rita presented the United Relief Foundation with 52 assorted items she hand-knitted to provide female Veterans with some comfort that they have not been forgotten in their time of need.
Two of Rita’s quilted blankets were placed in the National Women Veterans United (NWVU) SGT Simone A. Robinson Military Women Veteran’s Center meditation room. Twenty of her hand-knitted hats were given to homeless female Veterans at an NWVU stand down, and the remaining hand-knitted items will be provided, by the United Relief Foundation, to other Women Warriors in need.
This holiday season, as your family gives thanks for the blessing you share, I encourage you to reach out to your local VFW or American Legion to find a Veteran in need. If you would like help connecting with a Veteran or want to do more, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
As we share in giving thanks for the service and sacrifices made by the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, I wish you and your loved ones a safe and joyous Thanksgiving.
