SUMMARY:NWVU Breast Cancer Awareness Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Strength in Sisterhood: NWVU Breast Cancer Awareness Gathering\nWE SEE YOU • WE HEAR YOU • WE SUPPORT YOU \nJoin National Women Veterans United as we come together for a Breast Cancer Awareness gathering: to support one another\, the women who have fought and are fighting breast cancer\, and to remember those who left us too soon. \nBreast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. In the U.S.\, about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Women veterans face unique risks. Studies show that women veterans experience higher rates of certain cancers\, including breast cancer\, due to service‑related exposures\, stress\, and delayed access to care. \nThe journey is not easy — but together\, we rise.  Your story\, your healing\, and your future hold power. \n\nSaturday\, October 24\, 2026\n1:00 PM – 4:00 PM\nNWVU SGT Simone A. Robinson Military Women Veteran’s Center\n8620 South Pulaski (Lower Level) Chicago\nAdditional event details will be posted as confirmed\n\nPlease RSVP by October 19\, 2026 \n\nnwvu.org@gmail.com\nOffice  (872) 731-2150\n\nWhy Breast Cancer Awareness Matters \n\nAwareness leads to early detection. Many women delay screenings because of fear\, lack of information\, or limited access. Awareness campaigns encourage mammograms\, self‑exams\, and regular checkups.\nIt reduces stigma and isolation. Breast cancer is not just a medical diagnosis — it affects identity\, confidence\, and mental health. Awareness creates safe spaces for women to share their stories.\nIt honors survivors and those we’ve lost. Awareness events help communities remember the women who fought bravely and support those still navigating treatment or recovery.\nIt empowers women to advocate for their health. Knowledge helps women ask better questions\, seek second opinions\, and push for timely care — especially important for women veterans who often face systemic barriers.\nIt strengthens community support. When women see others standing with them — saying We See You\, We Hear You\, We Support You — it reinforces that no one fights alone.\nIt drives funding and research. Awareness increases donations\, research investment\, and policy attention\, leading to better treatments and improved survival rates.
