  • NWVU on the Move!

    August 25, 2008

The National Women Veterans United has been on the move in 2008. Meeting new members, friends and supporters. It is obvious that they are taking Chicago by storm showing up in their proclaimed Organization color of "Blue."

They always have recruitment on their mind, because they understand that women veterans are unaccounted for and need to be informed of what benefits and entitlements they are due. It is no secret that for years women veterans have been standing in the shadows of their male comrades. This is a new day and time for women veterans to step forward to receive the recognition for their service.

We must not forget those women who paved the way for us to serve honorably. Their legacy must be preserved and honored. The membership is comprised of all branches and what is lacking right now is more diversity. We encourage other ethnic groups to join us. Our Latino and Asian sisters are left out of everything and they just need to see what we stand for and then work to start other NWVU chapters in their residential or work communites. There is a need to bring women veterans together and discuss the issues that many are experiencing. For example, we get leads on possible job opportunities, scholarships and other resources and there is no central place to post this information. We are working on some very important and worthwhile projects. We look forward to being that organization that women can be proud of and benefit from.

Violence in the Community

NWVU Talks About It

Left to right

Dr. Ida Pruitt Cross, Commissioner of the Illinois African-American Family Commission, Dr. Constance Edwards (NWVU Vice-President), Rosemary Reeves, Executive Director of Women-Eye, Reverend Harold Bailey, Founder of Probation Challenge, Denise Ferguson, Chicago Commission on Human Relations Director/Community Liaison Advisory Council on Women Affairs, Philip Jackson, CEO of the Black Star Project.

The escalation of violence is a concern for our men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. They should be concerned about the mission they are on and they are worrying about the family they left behind.
